The first time I ran into this guy, I was stumbling out of The Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers and he kinda startled me. Today for the first time, I saw who he really was, and it kinda looks like Ronald Reagan viewed while on acid.
Party time!
So our friend Shin just finished the flyers, so we are ready to full-on promote the party. After going to the magic glasses party this past weekend though, I feel like we should do it up even more, since that was such an amazingly good time, and I want to uphold the energy and vibe levels but we’ll see…
Weekend thinking
Well, I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather but Thera-Flu to the rescue. I love that shit. Seems to always work. Anyhow, while I was resting in bed, I decided to listen to some Alan Watts and one of the great things from the particular speech I picked up on was this…
I can’t quite remember the context since I was half-asleep, but he asked, if you had to describe heaven, what would you include? It’s funny b/c when you get down to it, most of what you’d expect in a heaven type place wouldn’t include a big ass Hummer SUV, giant house or any of those things. The materialistic wants that are so prevalent, but rather the things that are so much more important in the big picture.
I thought that was an interesting way of putting things… ok, more tea.
Serial Monogamy?
OK, so I’ve heard this term, and just today decided to look it up after perusing Craigslist postings.
Well, I don’t see that as a good description of what I am but I also don’t know what is. Anyhow, I was just thinking, if I did post a personal ad, and had a listing of what I like/dislike, I’d say it would go something like this:
Single Asian male, early 30s. Loves to ride MUNI for the adventure and instant excuse it provides (no one can blame you for being late if you ride MUNI!). Enjoys photography, travel, music, dancing and is comfortable being alone (aka not needy).
Enjoy walking, biking and reading.
Shit, this is too hard, now that I am actually trying it…
Peace
Wow, today a peace rally was held here in San Francisco, and I was overcome with the amount of passion and compassion that was present at the event. There were people of all types protesting together against war, against our goverment, against hate, against greed.
There was so much positive peaceful energy in the air, that it felt like it must have felt like in the past when the threat of war was imminent. I can’t imagine what it must have been like, but I think that I would have been a draft dodger for sure. I could never bring myself to be a solider – to kill – even in the name of freedom.
Today I felt the energy that I have felt growing in America. I have no idea what will come, but here are some links to things I’ve enjoyed checking out:
– video I saw twice this weekend, that some of my friends put together
– interesting thoughts from Woody Harrelson
Platformed
Went to the Platform party last night which was really a nice vibe. Very eclectic mix of people from the society crowd, to hip scenesters, to not-so-hip wanna-be’s and whatever the hell I am.
This model was pretty cool. She’s been burned by local photogs so I felt for her, since that’s bad for everyone – models, photogs, etc. Well, looks like orange has even more work to do!
Late Night Larry
Prior to living in SF, I never had a personal cabbie. Although I’m not sure that’s the right term, it’s what I use. This is Larry, who’s my cabbie. I always try to use Larry when I can since he’s reliable, has the best stories, and good taste in music. Tonight my friend was hesitant to ride MUNI so I offered to call Larry and also took a ride myself since it had been a while since I saw Larry.
I’d like to do more photos of Larry since this one wasn’t my favorite, and he’s a very interesting person. If you need a cab in SF, use Veteran’s/Arrow, that’s who Larry works for…
Guilty pleasures
So if you live in SF like I do and am tech-savvy (ok, a geek) then you have probably heard of if not used, Missed Connections on Craigslist. As a work break, I check it out almost regularly. Today I stumbled across this post which was hilarious.
If you don’t know what missed connections is, then you won’t get it but if you do, it’s quite a witty post. 🙂
Artists Statement 1.0
I am a voyeur in nature. I prefer to analyze, evaluate and not get too
intimate. It’s been manifested in almost every relationship I’ve had
with every thing or person I’ve met. I get close, examine, enjoy, and
interact, but rarely do I allow anything in too deep. With
photography, the art itself seems to be voyeuristic, but in reality, it
allows an openness that is expressed in a passive manner. The image is
captured and stored in a light-tight box, only to be viewed and enjoyed
later (although digital capture adds a bit of immediacy). Thus while I
may be placing myself in my photography, it is only when it is viewed
that the cycle completes itself.
What is love?
You know that you know that cheesy ass song that goes “what is love?!” in a techno kind of thing. I think there’s a SNL skit making fun of cheeseball club guys that has that on it. Anyhow, I realized tonight that I don’t know what it is exactly. Maybe it’s not so much that, but that I don’t know what it feels like to lose something that you love. The only people I’ve lost are my american “grandma” who was the lady next door who with her husband I called Grandpa and Grandma since I never really saw my real ones but a few times in my life.
When Grandma died, I was pretty young and cried and all that, but I didn’t have enough time to develop a deep relationship since I think I might have been seven or something. Since then, no one I’ve known has died. Of course, it’s not like death is a bad thing, since it’s just moving forward. But with the loss of a loved one (in a non-death sort of way) it’s different.
