Slacker Revisited

So I finally saw Slacker again for the first time since I saw it in Austin when I went to UT. It played at the Dobie Center caddy corner to my old dorm, the Goodall Wooten. It was cool to see old school places like Double Daves Pizza and especially GM Steakhouse. The dialog is great as well as seeing a lot of the actors that I more recently saw in Waking Life, and how different they look non-rotoscoped. It’s a good flick to see again if you haven’t seen it since it came out in 1990.

Oh yeah this image I took with my cameraphone – I thought it was kinda funny in the ‘we card everyone’ collage that they even included infants since I doubt too many of them are ordering alcohol.

So I was checking out art galleries, and saw this entry with the intriguing logo and for some reason I thought it was a high end sperm bank. I ended up walking inside to check it out and it was very stark and modern and very trendy looking – so far so good, I thought.

A nice looking woman looked up from her desk and asked if I needed help. Since at this point I still wasn’t sure what the place was, I asked her. She replied that it was a sound design studio and I thanked her and made my way on, a bit embarrassed, although I am sure she didn’t suspect – or did she?!

Saguaro Cacti

I’ve always seen images of Saguaro cacti but never really knew much about them but during my trip out to Scottsdale, I found out that they only flower for a few weeks each year and was lucky enough to be here during that time. These are the iconic cacti that you see in Southwestern imagery and it’s actually on the newly minted Arizona quarter.

Here’s the first test shot from our shoot. I’ve decided to create a “First Shots” category since I find I often like my random first test shots which often aren’t composed or even taken from the angle/location I mean to for the actual shoot. This was taken to make sure the PocketWizard was firing, but I kinda like how it turned out…
