footsteps

Finally checked out some art today and saw the spider on the Embarcadero. This older guy was walking by using his cane and the long exposure came out kinda neat. It was also a full moon rising behind the Bay Bridge…

My birthday drink tickets at Qool
So I was cleaning up a little and found this old school drink ticket from Qool. I guess it was my birthday or the week of my birthday and the awesome folks at Qool made that week’s drink ticket with my image on it with a birthday wish on it too. I wonder if I can still redeem this?!

Thin: Lauren Greenfield

thin lauren greenfield
Thinthink lauren greenfield is a film by photographer Lauren Greenfield, a member of VII, and someone with whom I share an interest in how womens body image is affected by society and media. I first met her at her opening at Robert Koch gallery in San Francisco for Girl Culture and have followed her work since then.

Thin takes a look at anorexia and follows several women in a treatment facility in Florida. It’s a documentary that is a very intimate look at the problem and one of the most striking things was how many of the women had to leave treatment prematurely because their insurance ran out. Since the film premiered in 2006, it was shot and predated the current health care debate and highlights many of the shortcomings in our country, but more importantly takes a close look at the impact of our culture’s obsession with body image.

My Little Sister!

I’m proud of my sis as she got published again this time in the Journal of Immunology in the current November 1, 2007 issue. Unfortunately with my unscientific mind I can’t really read it and make much sense of it, but you can check out the abstract and get more detail on their website.

Film Photo Booths

I love film photo booths and kinda dislike the digital and polaroid ones that seem to be a lot more prevalent of late. I’ve always said that film is going the way of fine art and accordingly there are less places supporting film processing, etc. and this is also the case in the photo booth world.

Luckily there are still many film photo booths and there’s a website dedicated to them (photobooth.net) with a locator, etc.

Here in San Francisco we have a few although we’ve lost some too like the awesome B&W one that used to be at Elbo Room (where this photo was taken a few years ago) now replaced by a non-film booth. I was at Annie’s Social Club this week though and found that they had a nice B&W film booth that rocks.

Calpis

Calpis w/Hello Kitty
This unfortunately named drink when translated directly from Japanese is Calpis which sounds a bit too much like cow piss, so they are using the name Calpico instead. Either way I love this stuff. While I was in Hawaii for my friends wedding, it felt like I was almost in Japan with so many Japanese tourists and Japanese stores/products but I was super psyched to find this bottle at a ubiquitous ABC Store.

Gershoni party

self portrait at the Gershoni party
So I’m finally back in San Francisco and it’s great to be home! I shot another party at Gershoni Studios this past Friday and took a requisite mirror shot on their dope mirror downstairs. I would have liked to play around with it more but had to actually do work too
🙂

Atlantic City fitness

Bethany Gainey
I didn’t shoot as much of the stage shots this weekend for the 2007 Atlantic City Pro-Am competition at the Trump Taj Mahal, but this was one of the few shots of the fitness routines that I did take. It’s of Bethany Gainey who placed second and looked really impressive. She’s now off to the Fitness Olympia in Las Vegas in a couple weeks…
