In-n-out #12

Number twelve came close on the heels of #11 since I still had a rental car so I ended up going with Laura to the In-n-Out at Fisherman’s Wharf before the Festizio show at the Red Devil Lounge on a rainy Sunday night. I also was informed by the awesome San Francisco Public Library, that my reservation for the In-n-Out book by Stacy Perman was ready for me to pick it up! In-n-Out #11

Heading up to Wine Country to shoot a wedding which almost always means a trip to In-n-Out either on my way up and/or the way down, but since I was traveling with my assistant/second shooter, I figured she wouldn’t be up for a double double of In-n-Out, so I got it on the way up hitting the Mill Valley location for a nice and filling pre-shoot meal. In-n-Out Burger book by Stacy Perman

in-n-out burger secret menu bookI didn’t realize that In-n-Out had a book written about them so now I gotta check it out.  I figured this out because I was all excited to see the In-n-Out documentary on KQED tonight but missed it.  So frantically searching the interwebz to see if any kind soul would have Ustreamed their live TV while they watched it, I came across this video of author Stacy Perman at a book signing in Napa at Books Inc.

Among the factoids she mentions that must be in the book are:

– Julia Child kept a list of where all the In-n-Outs were between her place in Santa Barbara and LA.

– When Per Se opened, self-professed In-n-Out fan and super Chef Thomas Keller got 300 In-n-Out Burgers for his staff.

Once I read it I’ll post a review or if you are more impatient than I, you can order it online!

Oh and on the Five Guys vs. In-n-Out?  No contest – In-n-Out kicks Five Guys’ ass.   Head to head like the Lightning Burger, I’ll take my Double Double any day 🙂

This trip to the Fisherman’s Wharf In-n-Out Burger was out of necessity after a crazy evening that started off with the Yelp Elite party at Butter and finishing up at Lucky 13.  I woke up without knowing right away where I was and found some strange stains on the side of the rental car – hmm…  Generally a #1 combo will get me back to normal but today was an exception.  Luckily it did help, and for that I thank you my beloved Double Double! Ah my favorite number is nine and this was a good burger.  It was Sunday afternoon and I had a rental car so a quick trip to the Wharf was the plan and I got to share my meal with Laura and Melodi.  Little did I know that I would return less than 24-hours later for burger #10! Man this particular genex style Double Double seemed super heavy on the onions.  I love onions and all but it was pretty powerful.  Outside the Las Vegas police were arresting some sorta crazy crackhead that had all the employees abuzz.

So lucky number seven on the day that the Chinese New Years Parade was happening had to be a good sign right?  Well the person who took my order was the best ever, not flinching when I quickly vocalized my order.  The Mill Valley location is a bit weird in that it doesn’t have a drive-thru because of some thing that happened way back when they first were opening up, so everyone takes it to go or eats in.

I forgot about what college girls were like until I stepped foot into the Tempe In-n-Out and there were girls in bikinis in line with me.  It was so warm outside too so this was a welcome visit and I was starving to boot.  This was another “genex style” burger, correctly made so I’m on a good streak.  I’ve found that saying: “Animal Style, no pickles, but add raw onions” seems to work best.  Sometimes they ask if I want “both types of onions” of which I reply to in the affirmative.  Oh and as you can see, I was reading the USA Today article about Olympic speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno.

In-n-Out Burger #5 – genex style (correctly made)

A rare cheeseburger but I had anticipated coming to this In-n-Out both on my trip down as well as on my way back.  The Daly City In-n-Out was on my way down to Sand Hill Road for a shoot so I thought, a little cheeseburger will be perfect in the late afternoon and then another cheeseburger (or double double) would be perfect along with a shake after the shoot.  Well it turns out we had double booked photographers for the shoot so I let Myleen take the shoot and I just turned around and instead made a pitstop at Target and didn’t make my return visit to In-n-Out but it was probably just as well.

Before shooting a cover image for Dangerous Curves I had to return a rental car and to me rental car = In-n-Out so I made a second trip to In-n-Out in the same rental this morning.  Glad I did since the shoot was pretty tiring with lots of lighting changes and getting up on the roof too.  I handled a ton of weapons.  One of the prop stylists was CHP so there were real sniper rifles with laser scopes, shotguns, .45s, berettas and a bunch of other guns I had no idea what they were called.  Pretty fun to play with as props even though there were the real deal.  Stay tuned for pix from the In-n-Out fueled shoot!
