Well, due to a sync error on my iPhone I lost the actual photos of the receipt and burger but had posted this one shot to twitter before so this will be the ‘evidence’ of my 37th In-n-Out burger which was in Las Vegas. Since it was just after prejudging at the 2010 NPC USAs, Gail Auerbach, a female bodybuilder that I know also made it over to this In-n-Out which was just a couple blocks away from the venue where the competition was happening. This trip was also Steve Schibelli’s first trip to an In-n-Out and so it was Steve, myself, James Cook and Annie Rivieccio chomping on burgers. Gail just came in and ordered and hung out with us while she ordered before she was on her way!

Wed July 21, 2010: In-N-Out Burger #36 – Cheeseburger – Daly City, CA
Another in-car dining experience but I opted for a simple cheeseburger with no pickles but with raw onions. The receipt didn’t look right, but luckily there were no pickles. The cheeseburger is much more manageable to eat in the car and less messy so hence the decision to forgo a Double Double…

Um, I think I have a problem, since I’ve been to this In-n-Out way too much and this was the third Double Double in four days. Oh well, it’s hard to resist when you are driving right by an In-n-Out Burger! The fries were craptastic today though so I didn’t finish many of them – dammit – should have just ordered them well done so they wouldn’t have been so soggy.

So the aftermath of the BreastFest on Saturday meant a hungover Sunday morning so after my meeting at the Ritz Carlton down in Half Moon Bay, I knew that a Double Double could help make me feel better. You can see I’m sitting at the handicap table which was appropriate considering how crappy I felt. I really wanted a shake too but just felt I was assaulting my body too much even for some cool creamy richness 🙂

Yep, after tasting way too many beers at the BreastFest (photos) at Fort Mason Center, a few of us smartly got the urge for In-n-Out Burger and headed down to the Wharf! As you can see, we wolfed them down and this was all that was left. BreastFest itself was really fun. I tried a ton of beers and of course had some old favorites too. A complete list after the jump! Ah sunny Sonoma County! Coming back from the Vintner’s Inn I just had to make a quick stop at this In-n-Out which had a pretty interesting mix of clientele. This was also the one where the cashier had the most trouble with my order. I think I’ll record me ordering the next time since people seem to often be confused with my order. I even tell them it should just say “Animal P O” and it should be correct.
Of course I’ve got my order ‘genex style’ wrong quite a bit and all the receipts are often different too…
San Francisco’s Best Burger?
Do you like burgers? I love ’em so when we saw that 7×7 Magazine had done their top twenty burgers in San Francisco, we decided to try out their top ten and do our own evaluation. Now, these are more the cloth-napkin type of establishments where the top ten were chosen from so my dining companions @a and @sfgirl went through them together and we have arrived at our final judgments.
If you are interested in my general favorite burger list (which as of this posting has not been updated to reflect these last ten burgers, check it out here. That’ll give you an idea for the types of burgers I like (Pearl’s, In-n-Out, Bullshead, Zeitgeist for example) so you can determine whether my reviews of these other higher-end burgers is relevant to your tastes.
Best Burgers in San Francisco (based on 7×7’s reviews*):
1) Bix
2) Spork
3 tie) Mission Beach Cafe, Fish and Farm, NOPA
6 tie) Namu & Spruce (shown above)
8 ) Zuni Cafe
9) Orson
10) Serpentine
And this list posted on Yelp is here (where you can read in more detail about each of the dining experiences).
* we substituted Orson for Acme Chophouse, since Acme no longer exists. Why not Slow Club? Well, we had all already eaten there before so we chose Orson b/c of the many high ratings it’s gotten like from Michael Bauer, the Chronicle’s food writer.
Fri July 2, 2010: In-N-Out Burger #31 – Double Double genex Style (correctly made) – Pinole, CA
I underestimated Fourth of July traffic and it took me nearly two hours to get to the Pinole In-n-Out Burger from San Francisco so I was super starving when I did get there. I was running a bit late because of that but just couldn’t do the eating-in-the-car thing so instead chowed down inside. Luckily the order came out remarkably fast for In-n-Out and my genex style Double Double was just right! It seems lately the staff ask if I want raw onions “instea”d or “in addition to” more often instead of saying “both” types of onions. Well it was pretty tasty, but I think the irritation from the traffic and rushing made it my least enjoyable burger of the year – damn traffic!!!
Sun June 27, 2010: In-N-Out Burger #30 – Double Double genex Style (correctly made) – Pleasanton, CA
My friend Maryann just moved out to California and hadn’t yet been to In-n-Out Burger so I had to take her – well, that, and the fact that we had to shoot an actor from Twilight: Eclipse in Pleasanton so of course there’s an In-n-Out on the way! Anyhow, we got there and it was so nice out so we decided to eat outside, but the blasphemous thing was that Maryann didn’t even order anything but a coffee – an iced coffee at that! Oh well, I enjoyed my Double Double genex-style well enough.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I went to In-n-Out twice in one day, big deal. And it was the same In-n-Out. I guess I should have just saved my cup and got a ‘refill’ eh? Well, the first one in the morning was eaten in the car, which was just a bit too stressful for my non-driving ass, so this time I went inside to enjoy my genex-style Double Double. The perfect reward for a good wedding shoot and to bring me up from the crushing US defeat and crash out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup…
